Candidates’ Responses
Welcome to the 2014 ANDVSA Candidate Survey. ANDVSA conducts a candidate survey each election cycle to educate and inform the voting public about candidates’ views on addressing domestic violence and sexual assault in Alaska. The following is a list of candidates, organized alphabetically by district. If a candidate responded to the survey, the link to their name will be active and by clicking on the link you will access their response. Candidates who did not respond to the survey have a “no reply” indicated next to their name. Note: we sent surveys to all candidates registered with the Division of Election as of September 18, 2014. Write-in candidates registering after that date did not receive a survey and are not listed. In addition, we believe that everyone holding a public office in Alaska has the power to affect change that will have far-reaching and lasting impacts on families and individuals experiencing domestic and sexual violence. For that reason, we chose to send both Gubernatorial and Lieutenant Governor candidate’s individual surveys for their individual responses.
Candidates were asked two main questions: (1) How they would address the disproportionately high rates of violence against Alaska Native women; and, (2) How they would prioritize the following 6 focus areas: sexual assault in the military; prevention in schools and communities; funding of shelter programs; sex trafficking; violence against Alaska Native women; and engaging men in ending violence (with 6 being the highest priority and 1 being lowest priority).
