Executive Director | Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living

Salary Range: $98,000 – $105,000 Annually (Commensurate with qualifications and experience)

Reports To: Board of Directors

Purpose of Position:

The Executive Director is the key management leader of the Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living (IACNVL). The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include mentoring and leading all staff, fundraising, marketing, and local, state, and legislative outreach. The Mission of the agency is to coordinate and provide programs to intervene and prevent domestic violence, sexual assault, suicide, and other violent crimes that negatively impact our community and the surrounding interior villages. The overarching vision of the agency is a safe and supportive community for all.

Essential Functions:

Board Governance

  • Responsible for leading the agency in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
  • Communicate effectively with the Board and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and make informed decisions.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising, and to increase the overall visibility of the agency throughout the community and state.

Financial Performance and Viability

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the agency, including submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Manage fiscal operations within the approved budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization and maintaining a positive financial position.
  • Responsible for fundraising, grant writing, and developing other resources necessary to support the agency’s mission.

Organization Mission and Strategy

  • Responsible for implementation of the agency programs that carry out the organization’s mission and evaluating outcomes.
  • Engage in strategic planning in conjunction with the Board of Directors and staff to ensure the agency can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
  • Maintain awareness of the agency image by being active and visible in the community and working closely with professional, civic, and private organizations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with organizations and legislators throughout the state to enhance the mission and ensure visibility and relevance.
  • Supervise and collaborate with agency leadership to ensure effective outcomes of agency programs.

Organization Operations

  • Oversee and implement appropriate resources to ensure the operations of the organization are appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and day-to-day operations.
  • Hire and retain competent, qualified staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations and legal obligations of the agency.
  • Sign all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into on behalf of the organization.

Staff Leadership and Development

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate staff, fostering an environment that encourages growth and continuous learning.
  • Ensure staff alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values, and promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Provide regular feedback and support to staff to promote a high-performance work environment.
  • Establish clear roles and responsibilities and ensure effective communication across departments and programs.

Minimum Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Management, or closely related field.

Experience

  • Three or more years senior nonprofit management experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Transparent and high-integrity leadership.
  • Solid, hands-on budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting.
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation.
  • Exhibit passion and enthusiasm for the mission.
  • Strong grant writing skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
  • Strong public speaking ability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s in Public Administration or closely related field.
  • Eight years of senior nonprofit management experience.
  • Experience working in the field of victim services and/or operations of 24/7 emergency programs.
