Legal Program, Full-time, Non-Exempt position

This position within the ANDVSA Legal Program provides statewide legal support and resources to advocates at ANDVSA member and partner organizations. It is based anywhere ANDVSA has an office (currently Anchorage, Juneau or Sitka) but could be remote based on agency approval. It is supervised by the Legal Program Director. Some travel is required. The salary depends on experience with a range of $55,712 -66,523.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Provide statewide support to legal advocates working with survivors in the justice system

  • Work closely with ANDVSA member program advocates to ensure that they understand the services provided by the Legal Program and that program participants can utilize our services to the fullest degree possible.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to advocates about the civil and criminal justice system and other legal issues as necessary and develop resources as necessary.
  • Help develop and facilitate a 30 hour web-based legal advocate curriculum for use by new and ongoing legal advocates to learn the essential skills for legal advocacy.
  • Maintain a web-based library for legal advocates that includes the legal advocate curriculum; a library of webinars; legal advocate resources; and a forum for peer-to-peer sharing.
  • Provide grant statistics as necessary.
  • Organize trainings and webinars for legal advocates and make arrangements for in-person and virtual conferences, including meeting space; catering; a/v requirements; handouts.
  • Develop criminal justice resources for advocates to improve their understanding of the criminal justice system.
  • Develop victim rights’ resources for advocates so that victims can better enforce their statutory and constitutional victim rights.
  • Provide ongoing support to legal advocates including holding office hours and a system of monthly check-ins.
  • Organize two annual on-site visits to DV/SA programs needing support for their criminal justice community coordinated response.
  • Develop model policies and protocols for DV/SA programs for criminal justice coordinated community response.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience providing advocacy to DV/SA program, preferably in a community-based setting, and preferably through the justice system.
  • 5 years working with DV/SA survivors or other survivors of trauma.
  • Strong technology skills, particularly with online learning platforms.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles.
  • Ability to work without direct day to day supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal, group, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail for drafting legal and professional documents.
  • Willingness to adhere to the ANDVSA’s philosophy, policies and procedures; commitment to the elimination of personal and societal violence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience providing advocacy to DV/SA program, preferably in a shelter-based setting, and preferably through the justice system.
  • 7+ years working with DV/SA survivors or other survivors of trauma.
  • Experience providing in person and virtual trainings to large and small groups.
  • Experience developing online curriculum.
