Understanding Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

Facilitated by the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (ANDVSA), this course provides a foundation for understanding domestic violence, sexual assault, and advocacy. Learners will explore how violence affects individuals, families, and communities, while building knowledge and skills that support effective, inclusive, and trauma-informed responses.

Topics include: domestic violence, sexual assault, coercive control, the impact of trauma, children’s experiences of violence, trauma-informed care, confidentiality, mandated reporting of child and vulnerable adult abuse, safety planning, protective orders, historical trauma, crisis and suicide intervention, and vicarious trauma.
