Volunteer Spotlight — October 2025

Paul Morin

Congratulations to our October Volunteer Attorney of the Month, Paul Morin!

Paul represented a survivor in a Supreme Court protective order appeal for his first pro bono ANDVSA case.

While this was Paul’s first foray into protective order law, he has plenty of experience with cases involving complex family dynamics. Paul began his legal practice as a prosecutor, handling cases with domestic violence victims in both juvenile delinquency and adult criminal matters. Currently, Paul serves as an Assistant Attorney General with the Department of Law’s Child Protection Section. Since joining the Child Protection Section, Paul says that he enjoys the “rehabilitative and conciliatory process” emphasized in a best practices approach to child-in-need-of-aid matters, which regularly proves essential in “families being reunited while ensuring children remain safe.”

Paul greatly appreciated the opportunity to work directly with an ANDVSA client and delved into the case with enthusiasm.  Though Paul had to go through a detailed conflict-check process before he could accept the case as a public sector attorney, he insists it was well worth it and encourages public sector colleagues not to be deterred from pursuing pro bono opportunities.  Due to his regular trial court schedule, Paul found that this pro bono appeal worked well with his existing obligations and time constraints. Volunteering any amount of time is always greatly appreciated, and while volunteers may not be able to provide trial-related services, pro bono appellate work “is just as meaningful and important.”

Paul became interested in a legal career upon completing a constitutional law course during his undergraduate studies at Patrick Henry College.  He completed his legal studies at Regent University School of Law, returning to his hometown of Kenai as an intern with the Kenai District Attorney’s Office during his 2L summer, and then upon graduation, as a judicial law clerk for a Kenai Superior Court Judge.

When not volunteering with ANDVSA or working, Paul and his family enjoy spending time outside in their garden, taking walks, and supporting local performing arts organizations in their community.

Thank you for your excitement about pro bono work, Paul!
